Welcome to the 2022–2023 School Year

A Letter from Our Head of School

Dear Families of the Waldorf School of Pittsburgh, Welcome to the 2022–2023 school year! I hope your summer has been joyful and restorative. We are eager to welcome your child(ren) back to campus in a few weeks’ time. Throughout the summer, our teachers have attended both in-person and virtual courses (including renewal courses, remedial courses, restorative practices, spacial dynamics, and teaching for equity and justice), hired four new teaching assistants and a new Nursery teacher. Campus projects have included the separation of our fire alarms for all three buildings on campus (per the recommendation of our fire marshal), renovating the first and second grade hallway and walk-thru kitchen, and a new fence in the Little Friends and Kindergarten play yard in front of the Yellow House (now in progress). Enrollment in several classes have increased closer to pre-pandemic numbers, and we are eager to welcome a host of new families to WSP this year!

In the spirit of preparing for a new school year, all families are warmly invited to help us clean, organize, and refresh the classrooms and common spaces of the school by attending Beautification Weekend for one or two shifts on either Friday, August 26, 2022 from 1:00–5:00pm or Saturday from 8:00am–4:00pm. An opportunity to work outdoors,“Mulch Monday” on August 22, has also been added to the week of preparations. Please sign up here.

We are so excited to begin the school year together with students returning for their first day of school on Tuesday, August 30, 2022. This is a half day for all students with dismissal at 12:15 pm. Our Health & Safety Plan will be available soon to reflect the updates for the new school year. WSP is aware that the CDC is updating their guidance for schools this week, so we will be reviewing this and updating our Health & Safety Plan as necessary. WSP’s Infectious Disease Team (formerly known as the Pandemic Team) has continued to meet throughout the summer to stay abreast of the most up-to-date data and health guidelines/mandates and to ensure all protocols are updated accordingly. We will let families know when all updates have been made to the Plan. Please mark your calendars to attend our virtual Back-to-School Night to be held on Thursday, September 8, 2022 from 6:30–7:30pm. We hope to see you all there! In the meantime, please read through the contents of this packet for useful information in preparation for the start of the school year including a checklist of important paperwork needed by the first day of school. With best wishes for a wonderful school year, Kirsten Christopherson-Clark Head of School
