Scenes from the Week: 11/01–11/04
A Second Grade student assist in preparing winter greens for pick up on Thursday.
During a Grade 7 creative writing block students read prose and poetry, and experience activities that call on them to write in new ways, all centering around the themes of wish, wonder, and surprise. The class has explored quotes by George Washington Carver and Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, as well as poetry and prose by Alice Walker and Naomi Shihab Nye. Students are reading works by other various authors and are discussing the literary devices—imagery, figurative language, repetition, etc.—used to compel readers. All of this is with the goal of writing more specifically and creatively.
