Lead Class Teacher, 2025–26 school year

 

The Waldorf School of Pittsburgh is accepting applications for a Class Teacher for the Grades Program. Class teachers usually remain with their classes for several years and should be comfortable teaching students in Grades 1–8.  

 

About WSP:

Established in 1993, Waldorf School of Pittsburgh  is a mature Waldorf school serving about 200 students each year, committed to equity, and looking to diversify our staff. Our mission is to foster each child’s capacity to become an independent thinking, compassionate, courageous, and purposeful human being.

 

WSP offers a child care program, parent child program, Nursery and Kindergarten classes and 1st through 8th grade classes. We are a Member of WECAN and accredited through AWSNA and PAIS. Lead Early Childhood Teacher, 2025-26 School Year

The Waldorf School of Pittsburgh is accepting applications for a Lead Early Childhood Teacher to join the Faculty for the 2025–2026 school year. The early childhood program operates during the school hours of 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Monday-Friday.  Some after school work hours are required.

The Lead Teacher will hold a mixed age (ages 2 to 4) class of students with an assistant teacher for the school year.  Lead Teachers also supervise the assistant teacher.

Qualifications:

Experience teaching in an early childhood classroom setting is required. Applicants who either completed or are in the process of completing their Waldorf teacher certification and hold a Bachelor's degree are preferred. Little Friends Assistant Teacher, 2025-26 School Year

The Waldorf School of Pittsburgh (WSP) is accepting applications for an Assistant Teacher in the Little Friends program for the 2025–2026 school year. The Little Friends school year runs from late August (or early September) through mid June. The program is open 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday and observes the breaks and holidays of the WSP calendar.

This early childhood program for young children includes plenty of outdoor play in all weather, domestic activities, the daily prepping and cooking of meals, singing, storytelling, toileting and diapering.  The Assistant Teacher will assist the Lead Teacher in caring for 6 children ages 18 months to 3 years of age.

Qualifications:

Applicants must possess a high school diploma and have two years of verifiable work with children or a B.A. in Education or a related field. Federal, State, Child abuse, and NSOR clearances are required upon hire. We are accepting applications until the position is filled.

 

Compensation:

The starting pay is $16.50 an hour. Benefits include 30% tuition remission (except Little Friends), and 100% discount on Extended Care program for enrolled children. Paid snow and delay days as well as paid personal days.  Lunch is provided for staff in the Little Friends program.

Early Childhood Assistants, 2025-26 School Year

The Assistant Teacher works collaboratively with the Lead Teacher and other members of the Early Childhood Faculty/Staff to maintain the integrity and quality of WSP Early Childhood programs. Programming is from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m., Monday-Friday. Some before and after school hours are required.

Primary Grades Assistant and Movement Teacher  

 

The Waldorf School of Pittsburgh is currently seeking qualified candidates for the position of Primary Grades Assistant and Movement Teacher for Grades One and Two. 

 

Position Overview:

The Primary Grades Assistant Teacher works collaboratively with Lead Teachers to maintain the integrity and quality of the WSP Primary Grades program. Duties include teaching two periods per week of First Grade Games/Movement and two periods per week of Second Grade Games/Movement classes, in a manner that further reflects the goals of the curriculum and pedagogy of WSP. Ideally, a program assistant will have training and/or experience in Waldorf education, as well as experience and/or training in working with primary grades children. Musical and artistic abilities, kindness, warmth, patience, energy, and a genuine dedication to Waldorf education are assets for this position.

Front Office & Family Communication Manager  

 

The Waldorf School of Pittsburgh (located in the Bloomfield/Friendship neighborhood) seeks a full-time Front Office & Family Communication Manager to provide wide-ranging support to its faculty, staff, students, and families. This role is both public-facing and administrative, requiring the ability to set and juggle multiple priorities at once in a busy office setting. The ideal candidate will be both a self-starter and team player who approaches work with an adaptable attitude in a constantly-changing day-to-day environment, as well as a broader willingness to grow with the needs of the school. This role is supervised by and reports to the Head of School, with additional reporting to the Leadership Team and Board of Trustees as needed.

Duties:
 
Office Management
  • Ensure all paperwork for students and alumni is up-to-date each year, including health and academic records

  • Maintain classroom Emergency-at-a-Glance documents, Student Health/Emergency Cards, and Student Allergy Lists posted inside (and outside, if needed) classrooms before the start of the school year as well as with each new, mid-year enrollment and newly diagnosed student

  • Maintain attendance records

  • Maintain the master calendar of all school events including Google calendar, reserving spaces for meetings, clubs, workshops, etc.

  • Maintain school databases, including Ravenna, Google groups, Mailchimp, the school directory, and BrightArrow (emergency messaging system)

  • Perform general reception duties, including greeting and directing visitors, disseminating mail, and answering phones

  • Monitor door cameras for security; use buzzer system to open doors; sign in all visitors

  • Order office and classroom supplies as necessary; oversee maintenance of printers and copiers; maintain supply room; offer light IT support

  • Attend weekly administration meetings and secure front office coverage while away from office

  • Attend PA meetings 1-2 times per year

  • Abide by expectations outlined in the WSP employee handbook

  • Other duties as assigned (including administrative support for Winter Fair, May Fair, and other events)

Program Support
  • Prepare daily transportation lists for student arrive and dismissal

  • Serve as primary contact for arranging bus transportation for students

  • Serve as school nurse/health aid, including maintaining supplies and administering aid and medication to sick and injured children

  • Work closely with assigned school nurse and dental hygienist from PPS

  • Monitor children who are temporarily unable to be in the classroom

 

Communications
  • Serve as point of contact for questions from faculty, staff, and wider school community

  • Review, edit, and help compile weekly announcements and monthly newsletter

  • Update content of school website

  • Send messages via BrightArrow when school is delayed or closed.

  • Update handbooks for families and employees

  • Work closely with all members of the administrative team

  • Assist with other mailings and communications as needed

Qualifications
  • Have a minimum of one year of experience in office management with a non-profit, educational, or similar organization; ideal candidates will have 3–5 years of experience

  • Display fluency with basic office software including Google Suite and Microsoft Office

  • Interact effectively and professionally with a wide range of people in a wide range of circumstances

  • Remain calm under pressure and handle all situations with diplomacy and discretion

  • Be able to organize, prioritize, multitask, and meet deadlines

  • Have excellent writing skills and attention to detail

  • Pass standard criminal background checks and child abuse screenings prior to employment

Director of Business Operations

Position overview:

Responsible for the overall management of the school’s financial activities.

​

General responsibilities include supervision of the day-to-day accounting and financial activities of the school ensuring maintenance of appropriate policies and procedures (including maintenance of a standard operating procedures manual for the business office); working with the Board, Finance Committee, the Faculty and Administration to develop and regularly review financial models, structures and policies that ensure long-term affordability and sustainability, optimize revenue and budget performance and remain aligned with the school’s mission and philosophy.

Financial management:
  • Complete billing (TADS), accounts receivable and accounts payable and sales tax reporting (accountant and Paylocity)

  • Oversee collection, investment, disbursement, accounting of school funds

  • Ensure that all obligations of the school are met: payroll, payroll taxes, debt service payments, insurance premiums and all payable bills, tax return preparation

  • Maintain accurate, updated and locked personnel files

  • Maintain accurate and updated salary schedules, payroll changes due to changes in insurance, tax withholding, retirement contributions, etc.

  • Maintain oversight of monthly, quarterly and annual government payroll reporting as required, i.e., unemployment, W-2, 941s (Bookminders, Paylocity)

  • Preparation and mailing of annual 1099s & 1096 (Bookminders does most of this)

  • Ensure that bank and investment accounts are reconciled regularly and deliver cash deposits to bank

  • Work with faculty and staff to develop policies and procedures to safeguard and account for operating and restricted cash collections and disbursements, reimbursements, etc.

  • Ensure that bank and investment account documentation and corporate resolutions are properly maintained as instructed in writing by the board treasurer (Dir. of Bus. Operations collects board minutes for the audit)

  • Facilitate annual audit

  • Oversee financial aspects of the facilities management with the Facilities Manager

 

Tuition billing and collection:
  • Work closely with parents and outsourced tuition billing resources to maintain timely and accurate tuition collection. Communicate payment policies to parents. 

  • Manage delinquent accounts following decisions of Finance Committee; communicate appropriately with delinquent accounts

  • Make decisions regarding third-party collection/small claims activities for non-current parent accounts; (work with collection agency to maximize collection opportunities for aforementioned accounts as directed by the Head of School or Board)

Budget:
  • Prepare and present budget scenarios and supporting materials to support the annual tuition setting process as needed by the Board and Finance Committee

  • Prepare the annual operating budget including the incorporation of input from the Head of School, Faculty Chairs and Finance Committee. Oversee budget spending upon its approval by the Board. 

  • Regularly report budget spending to individual budget managers, the Head of School, Faculty, Finance Committee, and Board

  • Make recommendations as necessary to Finance Committee and Board for forecast adjustments during the year

Financial reporting:
  • Prepare and distribute summary and detailed income statement and balance sheet reports as well as ad hoc financial reporting on a monthly basis as requested by the Board and Finance Committee

  • Develop agendas, meeting materials, and presentations for monthly Finance Committee and Board meetings as well as special Leadership, Faculty and Staff or WSP community meetings

  • Regularly assess the accounting software and its ability to support the school’s needs​

​

Development support
  • Work with the Head of School and grant writer to properly account for gifts and donations

  • Manage the release of restricted funds as well as the communication of financial information for the purpose of gift solicitations

  • Prepare and send out annual donor tax letters with grant writer/finance assistant’s support

 

Enrollment support:
  • Work closely with the Admissions office to develop and implement fiscally responsible enrollment policies and procedures and to optimize preparation, delivery and communications regarding enrollment contracts and associated enrollment-related recordkeeping and billing (Ravenna Student Management)

  • Prepare tuition contracts and associated documentation for parents, i.e., payment plan options, withdrawal policies, etc. (Ravenna Billing)

  • Review and process incoming contracts

  • Ensure that third party tuition billing agreements are established within school-approved parameters in the appropriate amount and within payment plan deadlines

  • Ensure that all tuition contracts are invoiced correctly

 

Financial Aid:
  • Articulate the school’s process and policies regarding FA to existing and prospective parents

  • Review and analyze tuition assistance applications

  • Manage the annual tuition assistance award process along with the Head of School, including the development and delivery of parent communications; work with third party assessment resources

  • Assess and make recommendations as to whether the financial aid/tuition assistance budget is strategic and meets the needs of the WSP community

 

Financial/legal administration:
  • Provide input and remain engaged in the establishment and articulation of personnel policies and practices in such matters as new employee hires, annual employment and contractor agreements, and compensation and benefits

  • Regularly review personnel policies for faculty and staff in collaboration with the Leadership Team in order to ensure compliance with government standards and laws

  • Administer health and other insurance policies; obtain annual plan reviews; administer policy enrollment, termination and updates and COBRA participation; communicate insurance information as necessary to plan members (insurance vendor)

  • Administer school retirement plan including enrollment, contribution documentation and changes, bi-monthly submission of employee and/or school contribution remittance 

  • Oversee liability, property and student accident insurance needs and requirements; obtain annual plan renewals and assess adequacy of coverage

  • Interact with financial institutions or legal counsel as necessary

  • Complete financial portion of NAIS DASL survey and AWSNA reports; complete any required government reports from DOL, Census, etc. as needed

 

General Administration:
  • Oversee Bookkeeping

  • Committee responsibilities:

  • Attend Board of Trustees meetings as requested (typically monthly)

School Nurse / Health Assistant


The Waldorf School of Pittsburgh is seeking a skilled and compassionate School Nurse / Health Assistant to join our team on a part-time, hourly basis. The ideal candidate will be responsible for providing medical care and services to students and staff, maintaining health records, and serving as a liaison between parents, staff, and community medical professionals. This position will operate under the guidance of the Certified School Nurse and the supervision of the Head of School, and is intended to complement, not replace, the role of the Certified School Nurse. This position will report to the Head of School. 
 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Administer medication to students as required.

  • Provide first aid services for minor injuries and health concerns.

  • Assess injuries and notify parents if medical or dental intervention is needed, or if the student must leave school.

  • Screen students for symptoms of communicable diseases and, if necessary, exclude them from school while notifying parents/guardians.

  • Contact parents/guardians to arrange transportation for sick or injured students.

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date student health records and logs.

  • Initiate contact with parents/guardians to determine the medical condition of students who are absent for health reasons.

  • Assist with health screenings under the direction of the Certified School Nurse.

  • Perform other duties related to student health and well-being as directed by the Certified School Nurse or Head of School.

  • Follow the Waldorf School of Pittsburgh’s employee handbook and school policies.

  • Collaborate with the Front Office Manager to ensure effective communication with parents/guardians and support student health.

Qualifications:

  • Graduation from an accredited school of nursing or practical nursing program with current licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

  • Current Health Care Provider certificate in Basic Life Support (BLS).

  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact positively with students, staff, and parents.

  • Successful completion of PA Criminal, PA Child Abuse, and FBI Criminal History background checks within the last twelve (12) months (or ability to obtain).

Compensation:

  • Up to $40/hour, depending on experience.

  • Maximum of 3 hours per day, with a flexible schedule.

  • Ideal candidates have availability between 10 AM - 1 PM  or 11 AM -2 PM
