Admissions Overview & Applications Timeline

The Waldorf School of Pittsburgh is an independent, not-for-profit school that welcomes students of all races, colors, religions, national and ethnic origins, and from diverse family and economic backgrounds. Admission is selective and depends upon space availability, age, and an assessment of the student’s physical, emotional, and intellectual development and needs.

When to Apply

Applications for the 2025–26 school year are now open! Families considering the Waldorf School of Pittsburgh for their children are asked to submit a completed application by December 31st of the prior year for September enrollment. Applications received after this date will be considered on a rolling basis as we have space available in our programs. We welcome applications to our waiting lists as spots sometimes become available throughout the year. 

Determination letters are sent electronically in February.

How to Apply

The Waldorf School of Pittsburgh uses an admissions portal called Ravenna Student Management (RSM). Through RSM, you can inquire about our school, submit an application, request teacher recommendations, and submit Records requests. If you have already set up an RSM account, log in here to complete the application. If you have not already done so, create your RSM account here.

Kindergarten, Nursery, and Little Friends Admissions Steps & Checklist

Age requirements:
  • Kindergarten applicants must turn 3 by June 1st of the year of intended enrollment and be fully toilet-trained.

  • Nursery applicants must turn 2 by January 1st of the year of intended enrollment and be fully toilet-trained.

  • Little Friends applicants may enroll on the 1st day of the month of turning 18 months as long as this is in or before November. Applicants are eligible for a final calendar year, if the child turns 3 years old after June 1.

 
A completed application includes:
  • A Waldorf School of Pittsburgh tour.

  • A completed online application via Ravenna Student Management. We recommend you submit your application by December 31st, 2024. Applications submitted after this date will be considered on a rolling basis as we have space available in our programs.

    • Complete the Request for Records form and Early Childhood Teacher Reference, if applicable.

  • An in-person visit for the student applicant. Classroom visits for applications submitted by December 31 will be offered in January 2025 and are by invitation only. Visits length depends on the specific program:

    • Kindergarten: 2-hour visit independent of a parent or guardian. 

    • Nursery: 1-hour visit with a parent or guardian present

    • Little Friends: 30 minute group visit with a parent or guardian present

  • An online interview between the applicant’s caregivers and a member of our Early Childhood Faculty. Interviews for applications submitted by December 31 will be offered in January 2025 and are by invitation only.

    • Kindergarten and Nursery hold individual interviews while Little Friends holds group interviews.

Elementary and Middle School Admissions Steps & Checklist

Age requirements:
  • First grade applicants must turn 6 by June 1st of the year of intended enrollment.

A completed file includes:​
  • A Waldorf School of Pittsburgh tour.

  • A completed online application via Ravenna Student Management. We recommend you submit your application by December 31st, 2024. Applications submitted after this date will be considered on a rolling basis as we have space available in our programs.

    • Complete the Request for Records form and Grades Teacher Reference, if applicable.

    • Complete the Middle School Questionnaire for Grades 6-8.

  • An in-person visit for the student applicant.

    • Students applying for 1st Grade attend a 2-hour visit, independent of a parent or guardian, to one of our kindergarten classes and complete a 1st Grade Readiness Assessment, as determined by faculty.  

    • Students applying for 2nd–8th Grades attend a two, consecutive day visit to the classroom of their peers. Faculty may request an additional day, if needed.

  • An online interview between the application’s caregivers and our Grades Faculty.

Morning Garden Admissions Steps & Checklist

Age requirements:
  • Morning Garden Seedlings - Infant: birth to 12 months

  • Morning Garden Seedlings - Toddler: 12–24 months (or younger, if walking)

  • Morning Garden Saplings: Ages 2–4, must be 2 by start of class

  • Morning Garden Redbuds: Age 2–4, must be 2 by June 1.

A completed file includes:​
  • A Waldorf School of Pittsburgh tour is required for Redbud applicants.

  • Complete the online application via Ravenna Student Management. Morning Garden session classes are filled on a first come, first serve basis and are accepted all year. Even if classes are full, we encourage families to apply to be added to our waiting list. Priority is given to returning students for enrollment in the next session/age class.

  • Students applying for our Morning Garden Redbuds program must complete a 30 minute group visit with a caregiver present and a 30 min caregiver / teacher interview.
