On Wednesday, January 23, 2013 Springboard Kitchens will serve a complimentary lunch to all interested students, teachers and staff. This will give our community an opportunity to try out our new and healthy hot lunch program. Our tentative plan is to offer lunches twice a week beginning in February. The PA will send home menus and lunch orders with students for the month of February on January 23. More information regarding the complimentary lunch on January 23 will be coming soon.
An introduction to Springboard Kitchens:
Springboard Kitchens uses food as the foundation to improve people’s lives. We do this through food rescue, feeding food insecure populations, and training people with barriers to employment for jobs in the food service industry.
We are also a social enterprise, a mission-based nonprofit business. Currently, over 90% of our annual $3M budget comes from earned revenue, with the remainder coming from charitable sources.
We at Springboard are in the business of food: Food as community, as communion, as a tool through which we touch our clients. We respect the food we serve; the hands that produce it; and the hands that receive it. Through that respect comes dignity. From our volunteers, to our cooks, to our participants and clients, we provide the shared experience of a good meal, and the dignity that comes with being invited to the table. Every meal we serve—from the boardroom to the shelter, and everywhere in between—is prepared with the same attention to detail, the same high standards. It starts with the center of the plate.
