The Third Grade Farm trip was a huge success. The Third Grade Class traveled through the rain and prepared themselves for three muddy, messy days at the fiber farm of Dave and Darlene Terlizzi in Oakland, Maryland. However, once the class was about 100 miles from Pittsburgh, the sun came out. The class stayed in the farmhouse with the farmers, and participated in the care and feeding of their 60+ animals. What an adventure it is to feed llamas which are nearly twice the height of most of the class members! In addition, we not only saw but cared for: sheep, goats, alpacas, a miniature horse, a donkey, cats, dogs and a bunny.
Mr. Roberto Sanchez-Dahl and Mrs. Konefal-Shaer, Handwork Teacher, accompanied the students on this learning adventure.
We certainly have a new appreciation for the effort required to produce the wool and yarns we use everyday.
