In Grade Five

Grade Five started our year with a study of Botany.  During this block, each student chose a tree on our campus to watch and record through it’s seasonal changes.  Every week we have visited and noticed differences.  We have drawn and written about our Maple, Oak, Fir and Gingko trees.  We’ll continue to follow each one through the Autumn and then look forward to their reawakening in the Spring.

In preparation for the Winter, we have put our Woolly Pocket Garden to sleep.  We cleared this year’s growth and then planted a cover crop of winter wheat.  The wheat will protect the soil through the winter and then serve as green compost for next year’s planting.  Our School’s diverse and beautiful grounds have provided so many opportunities for learning during this Fall’s Botany studies.
