Summer is the time for faculty to relax and prepare for the upcoming school year. Many of the teachers are attending weeklong intensives to prepare for the next grade, and Mr. Hare and Miss Christina Chirdon-Jones have started their Waldorf Teacher training at Sunbridge College.
In addition to this, the faculty spent June 20-25 in an intensive in-service training, thanks to a grant obtained by Julia Sawyer. Led by Laura Birdsall, Middle School Coordinator of the River Valley Waldorf School (Upper Black Eddy, PA) and Kirsten Christopherson-Clark, the faculty studied phonemic awareness and the Waldorf School language arts curriculum. By the week’s end, each grades teacher had his/her main lesson block rotation, and the early childhood faculty had planned portions of their circles with language arts in mind and had a focus on their parent evenings as well. It was a wonderful way to kick off the summer, bring the faculty closer together, and begin the work for the next school year. Thank you to Laura, Kirsten, and Julia for making possible this great experience!
