Admissions

The Waldorf School of Pittsburgh is an independent, not-for-profit school for children in preschool to fifth grade. The school admits qualified students from a range of abilities and backgrounds who can both benefit from and enhance the program.

Admission is selective and depends upon space availability, age, and an assessment of the student’s physical, emotional and intellectual development and needs.

Families seriously considering Waldorf for their children are asked to submit completed applications, including the $50 application fee, by February 1 of each year for September enrollment. Applications received later will be considered if spaces are available.

Nursery applicants and their parents are invited to visit the Nursery class for part of the morning. Following the class visit, teachers will schedule a parents-only interview to speak more in depth about the child and the curriculum. This interview is held at the school at a mutually convenient time.

Kindergarten applicants are scheduled for a 2-day visit which provides a basis for the parent-teacher interview. Ideally this parent-teacher interview is held on the second visitation day from 12:30 until 1:15 while the child has lunch with current kindergarten students.

Children applying to first grade will be invited to spend two days in the kindergarten and must be assessed for developmental readiness. Following the child’s visit and assessment, a parent-teacher interview will be scheduled at the school.

For children in grades 2-5, school transcripts from the child’s previous school are to be sent along with the application. The student is then invited into the class for a three-day visit. A parent/teacher interview follows this visit.

When a child has been accepted into the Waldorf School at any level, families will receive a request for a $400 tuition deposit to hold the child’s space in the class.
