This week celebrated Groundhog Day and Candlemas, both bringing with them the hope of spring. Punxsutawney Phil, in a rare change of pace, declared that he could not see his shadow and spring is on its way. A tradition based off of a combination of histories including the presentation of the baby Jesus in the temple, the yearly candle blessing ceremonies of the middle ages, and the medieval superstition that on Candlemas the hibernating animals poked their heads out their dens to check the weather for signs of spring, Groundhog Day in Pennsylvania, as well as around the world, is celebrated with warm clothes and hopefully hearts.
